San Gabriel Suite
This spacious suite has two double beds. It is just off the pool area and has garden and pool views. The large bathroom has both a claw foot bathtub and an open shower. The 19th century niche to the left as you enter is from a church in Vietnam. It was salvaged at the end of the war when all of the churches were being looted. Inside the niche is a wooden Mexican sculpture of the Virgin Mary with Baby Jesus holding a dove. It is polychromed finished and circa 1800. The two paintings over the bed are newer, circa 1940. The one holding the Christ Child depicts the Virgin de la Candelaria and the other is the Virgin de la Macarena. They are Mexican devotional paintings that were prayed to and, as folklore has it, many miracles have been attributed to them. The large chair with angel carvings is Spanish circa 1890 and inside the bathroom there is a painting done on tin representing the virgin and child. It is circa 1800 and is in an antique frame. |
