For years Puerto Vallarta has reigned supreme as one of the world’s preeminent LGBT travel destinations. And it continues to be a popular and welcoming destination. As Mexico’s most gay-friendly city, there are plenty of attractions and events to appeal to LGBT visitors from around the globe.

For starters, Puerto Vallarta is the only coastal town in Mexico with a designated gay beach. Located at the end of Playa Los Muertos, the gay-friendly beach club opens when the sun comes up and serves breakfast, lunch and cocktails all day long. In addition to fruity cocktails and Mexican fare, the beach lounge is a feast for the eyes, serving up live entertainment in the form of go-go boys and drag shows.

Those looking a more beaten-off-the-path beafor ch experience can take a boat ride to Yelapa. Charming and absent of chain establishments, the remote retro-beach that still enjoys its share of anonymity is ideal for couples seeking seclusion.

When night falls, LGBT travelers can find fun in Old Town Puerto Vallarta which is lined with nearly a dozen gay bars and clubs. Looking for a more mellow scene? Check out El Patio de Mi Casa, an outdoor jazz bar that embraces the city’s long jazz history. For a comprehensive list of gay bars, visit Gay Guide Vallarta.

LGBT globe-trotters can plan their Puerto Vallarta visit around the city’s biggest gay-centric event: every May, Puerto Vallarta celebrates the global gay community with a multi-day pride festival.  This year’s festivities will be held May 21-28, 2017, and showcase daily arts and cultural events, concerts, films, and beach parties.
